The Fight for Terri's Life - New Developments
The U.S. House of Representatives has issued subpoenas for Terri Schiavo to appear before a committee. This is an attempt to keep Terri alive. A Florida Judge [Greer] has ordered Terri's feeding tube and all nutrition to be removed today at 1 PM (Noon Central).
Because Congress has issued the subpoenas, Terri must be kept on the feeding tubes so she can appear before the special investigation committee. The maneuver has a slim chance of saving Terri's life, for now. Hospital workers who do not recognize the subpoenas can be held in contempt of Congress.
So for now Terri will live another day.
Meanwhile, Terri’s parents are arguing in court to grant Terri a divorce even after death from her husband Michael stating that he has been unfaithful in his marriage because he is living with his fiancé and has fathered two children with the woman. They are also trying to prove that he has not acted in the best interests of his wife as well as denying her civil liberties. The case is unprecedented since Terri cannot file for herself and her parents are seeking the divorce even if it comes after death. The court ruled that even if she is granted a divorce before the court ordered removal of her feeding tube that the parents would have to remove the feeding tubes based on Michael Schiavo’s testimony stating Terri once told him she would not want to be kept on life support. The family wishes to have Terri buried instead of cremated which is Michael’s wishes. Michael also requested that an autopsy not be done after death. Makes one wonder what Michael is trying to cover-up.
